Holistic Pelvic Care

What is Holistic Pelvic Care?

with Dr. Megan Golani

Holistic Pelvic CareTM is a gentle physical therapy technique used to treat many pelvic complaints by using intra-vaginal trigger point massages, exercises, and breath work. This therapy increases blood flow and restores strength and balance to the pelvic floor muscles. It differs from conventional physical therapy or bodywork in that it can rebalance the pelvis on a physical, emotional, and energetic level. Holistic Pelvic CareTM can also be a part of a women's preventive health care. Women do not need to have physical symptoms to benefit. Holistic Pelvic CareTM simply allows a woman to reconnect to her pelvic bowl and female organs - creative source of feminine energy and empowerment.

Tami Lynn Kent, a women's health physical therapist and author of Wild Feminine, developed Holistic Pelvic CareTM to address a woman's individual emotional and physical symptoms. Holistic Pelvic CareTM is very effective in reducing pelvic pain and increasing muscle strength on the physical level while having the ability to address emotional patterns or thoughts that may be "stuck" within her pelvic bowl, possibly contributing to physical symptoms.

Common conditions Holistic Pelvic CareTM is used to treat:

  • Chronic Pelvic Pain and Myofascial Pain Syndrome
  • Urinary leakage or incontinence, chronic bladder infections
  • Postpartum complaints (symptoms arising after childbirth, cesarean or miscarriage)
  • Fertility support or issues surrounding infertility
  • Pelvic muscle injury, truma, imbalance or weakness
  • Sexual complaints including pain with intercourse, low libido, and vaginal dryness
  • Menopausal pelvic symptoms
  • Organ Prolapse (Rectocele/cystocele)
  • Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
  • Vulvovaginal varicosities

Frequently Asked Questions about Holistic Pelvic CareTM:

How do I know if Holistic Pelvic CareTM (HPC) is an appropriate therapy for me?

If you are interested in learning if HPC is an appropriate therapy for you, please call to schedule a complimentary phone consultation with Dr. Golani. She will ask you a few basic questions and answer any inquires you may have about the treatment.

For further discussion about your medical history and personal information, please schedule an in-office appointment.

What does treatment involve?

For the first session, a brief history is taken and your questions are answered. Dr. Golani will assess the pelvic muscles inter-vaginally to determine whether or not the muscles are actively engaging (much like a Kegel exercise). Additionally, she will assess if there are trigger points and tension in the muscles.

After the assessment, the treatment will focus on restoring balance to the pelvic muscles through inter-vaginal massage with trigger point work, breath work, visualization, and guided meditation tools to balance both physical and energetic patterns.

A follow up session is recommended 1-2 weeks after the initial treatment. This will involve a brief re-assessment, but focus mainly on treatment.

Will the HPC treatment hurt?

The internal aspect of the treatment is gentle and respectful. Dr. Golani will follow the lead of the woman's body to direct the depth and direction of the therapy.

As with any sensitive treatment, the patient is in control. It should never be painful and there will be open communication throughout the treatment with the provider.
